Twenty-Four Lessons Over Twenty-Four Years

On my twenty-fourth birthday, my boyfriend asked me a simple question. “Do you feel any different now that you’re twenty-four?”

I shrugged. “No,” I said. “It doesn’t feel any different that being twenty-three.”

Weeks later I continued to think about that question. Each year I live, I learn valuable, and sometimes painful, lessons. These lessons allow me to grow. I know I’m not the exact same person I was a year, or even ten years ago!

Today, I want to share what has been on my mind these last few weeks. Here are twenty-four valuable lessons I’ve learned throughout my life.

1

The God of the universe loves me and knows what’s best for me.

2

I’ll have bad days, and that’s OK.

3

Even when I feel alone, Jesus is still carrying me and He’ll never drop me.

4

I can’t control how people perceive me.

5

My circumstances are just that: circumstances. They can change.

6

True love isn’t jealous, deceitful, of abusive.

7

Pride goes before destruction. (Proverbs 16:18)

8

There is no greater love than God’s love for me (and you!)

9

Nothing can satisfy my soul besides Jesus.

10

Complaining can spread like wildfire. Don’t start!

11

Always remember that my enemies are also created in the image of God and still should be shown love.

12

Choose friends wisely.

13

Don’t feel guilty about ending a toxic relationship.

14

God always provides a way of escape. (1 Corinthians 10:13)

15

Have courage.

16

Be a good role model.

17

Listen to the wisdom of my elders.

18

God was, is, and always will be sitting on the throne.

19

Choosing to forgive is liberating.

20

Always say, “Thank you.”

21

Kindness is not weakness.

22

No one can make me feel inferior unless I give them permission.

23

Don’t give up!

24

Jesus never fails.

I did some math, and as of today (May 22, 2019), I have been alive for 8,788 days. 8,788 days sounds like a lot of time for learning the ropes of life and all the important lessons to go with it, but it’s not much time at all. Even so, I still experienced difficulty trying to compile a list of only twenty-four lessons.

I hope you found this short post thought provoking. I encourage you to make a list of lessons you’ve learned throughout your life. I ask you to share a piece of advice or story in the comments below so everyone can learn from each other!

Until next time,

Alexa
